Episode 68.5: Anxious Karaoke V

Hello again, friends. I’ve returned with the fifth installment of the all-covers special known as “Anxious Karaoke.” I’m pretty pleased with the balance and variety of this year’s installment. Heavier on the evil-ing metal on side one while side two slides into some melody and dare I say tenderness. Hopefully you find something you like.

I’ll return shortly with your regularly scheduled, no-gimmicks-attached episode the beginning of April. A note, I’ll be out of town shortly, so episode 69 may arrive a day or so later than the first Wednesday of the month as is standard. Time will tell.

Episode 64

Greetings. I love doing this thing on the first Wednesday of every month. Anyway, I won’t wade into the failings of US electoral politics, there’s enough gloom in these songs. The short of it would be the first half is heavy on post-punk and its off-shoots; the second half is heavy on metal and punk off-shoots. It was a late night in the AE dungeon so I’ll leave you at this point. Thank you to all for your continued support.

As hinted at above, I’ll see you the first Wednesday of December. Keep the flame lit.

Episode 61

Greetings, with this episode Anxiety Eternal has been a festering sore on the face of society for five years. Much has changed in the world-at-large (and in your selector’s corner) in the past half decade and I appreciate all who have taken the ride. That being said, the music is the focus here, not reflection.

With Summer in full swing I felt the need to inject some speed into the mix which I feel has been lacking of late. Worry not, as the dirges and the misery also show themselves so as not to overwhelm the senses with pace for pace’s sake. There’s not much more to add other than thanks as always for any and all support. I will return the first Wednesday of September with the next installment. Anxiety Eternal is Eternal.

The artists and their respective tracks are as follows with each track time  noted in the parentheses after each track:

Episode 60

Greetings, faithful listeners. This episode marks the completion of the fifth cycle of the Anxiety Eternal psy-op. I hope this missive finds you well in this hellscape we call the present day.

To my tinnitus-addled ears this episode is as close to a representative example of the AE ethos as I’ve been able to muster for quite some time. This project is largely an of-the-moment exercise that isn’t always as diverse as I’d wish; time will routinely preclude me from checking as many genre boxes as I’d like while maintaining cohesion. Hopefully the sonic trail I lead you down isn’t too uneven.

With that being said, thanks to any and all support these past five years. I will return the first Wednesday of August with the next installment.

The artists and their respective tracks are as follows with each track time  noted in the parentheses after each track:

Side One:

Episode 59

Greetings, thank you for returning with me this month. I’ve been feeling a bit sped up lately so you’re likely to notice that a number of the songs in this month’s iteration take their time to unfurl. That isn’t to say that there isn’t much pep, either. One pace is no pace to aspire to.

With that I’ll express my gratitude to any and all support this project has received as it nears the five-year mark. No plans to stop or slow down, either. Forever in/of/for the underground; or some other platitude. See you the first Wednesday of July.

Episode 57

Hello once again. Hopefully the all-covers episode treated you well and you were left filled with mirth and nostalgia. But it is time to return to form.

April’s episode is filled to the brim with blackened noise and…regular noise, I guess. It also starts with a great deal of punk nastiness. Perhaps I’m raging against the dying darkness as the temperature soars and my mood sours. There’s no way anyone could know. BUT, you have nearly 60 minutes of sonic mayhem to use at your discretion. Please do so.

Thanks as always for any and all support. It is much appreciated. I will return the first Wednesday of May with more musical bullshit to tide you over until the next time.

Episode 56.5: Anxious Karaoke IV

Back again with the newest installment of this series. I was finally able to “hit the stage” and belt out some idiotic and garbled versions of popular music (disco-era Kiss) at a wedding some months back. Perhaps that’s why this episode seems less…bleak, I guess, than most episodes. Oh well.

Episode 53

Greetings. Welcome to the final episode of 2023. Hopefully this year has found you (who?) in good shape and good spirits. This month is heavy on guitars and light on electronics. I’ve found myself in a bit of a drought when it comes to new (or merely new-to-me) EBM, dark wave, synth, etc. acts so please feel free to shoot me suggestions.

But who says the “ole same ole” is inherently a bad thing. Lots of nasty death metal, driving post-punk, jolting punk, and immiserating black metal for your hungry ears.

Thank you for your continued support and I’ll return next month/year on the first Wednesday with more hits from hell.
