Episode 78

New year and more of the same. This is the first episode composed completely using my new computer. Kinda odd that my old computer was relatively new when I started this project. But enough navel gazing.

This month’s episode offers little in the way of melody but it features a lot of death metal and black metal, so that’s pretty great. I don’t feel like writing much more due to jet lag/sleep deprivation, but thanks for all the support over the years. Sic Semper Tyrannis and Fuck 12.

I will return the first Wednesday of February with more filth and irresponsible music in general. Onward.

Welcome to the final episode of 2025. It was nearly the final episode of this series but I’ve decided to carry on; hopefully with a new computer to facilitate this monstrosity. Please, Santa Baby.

This month’s installment is admittedly a lil clunky in the transitions of sound/theme. I trust you’ll be able to soldier through if you’ve made it this far. Episode 73

Six years in the can and still going strong. I am finally over the halfway point at which point I can dubiously claim I’ve been at this for nearly a decade; or, if in a moment of embarrassment, it’s been “just a few years.”

Some house-cleaning to get out of the way first. It is currently a temperate 80 degrees in NYC but there is a surge in air pollution due to Canadian wildfires. So it goes. Can’t win ’em all.

As for this month’s song selections, I kept it to the basics for this “momentous” (ha!) occasion. I just looked it up and some not-shady-looking websites informed me that the sixth anniversary is the “iron” anniversary. Naturally I’ve decided to provide you maniacs with nearly an hour of death metal, grindcore, black metal, and doom metal. But, sticking with tradition/ethos, I did trojan horse some weird electronic/experimental pieces in at the end.

That’s all I have for this month. Thank you for any and all support–past, present, and future. I will return the first Wednesday of September. Onward.

Episode 72

Greetings, this episode marks the end of the sixth cycle of this project. Next month will mark its sixth anniversary; I’m not good at basic math.

We kick things off with some noisy experimentation before gliding into more familiar blackened material. The second side begins with slower material before smashing into a sizable crust blossom that subsides into some slow-burn material.

That’s all I have to say subject matter-wise. Look after your own and don’t let these fascist bastards wear you down. I will return the first Wednesday of August for the sixth anniversary.

Episode 68.5: Anxious Karaoke V

Hello again, friends. I’ve returned with the fifth installment of the all-covers special known as “Anxious Karaoke.” I’m pretty pleased with the balance and variety of this year’s installment. Heavier on the evil-ing metal on side one while side two slides into some melody and dare I say tenderness. Hopefully you find something you like.

I’ll return shortly with your regularly scheduled, no-gimmicks-attached episode the beginning of April. A note, I’ll be out of town shortly, so episode 69 may arrive a day or so later than the first Wednesday of the month as is standard. Time will tell.

Episode 66

Greetings, pardon for the delay in my return. I was out of town longer than planned and returned to my lair only for the dreaded noro virus to strike a member of my family. All seems well now so let’s get down to business.

I must admit this episode might feel a little rough around the edges. I still think all the songs are phenomenal, but it might seem a bit odder than usual the order of things. Oh well, right?

Some newer music as well as a track or two that I’ve been trying to get to for a few years now which is a bit of a relief if I’m being honest. Not much else to say other than thanks for the continued report and barring unforeseen circumstances I’ll return the first Wednesday of February. Onward.

Episode 64

Greetings. I love doing this thing on the first Wednesday of every month. Anyway, I won’t wade into the failings of US electoral politics, there’s enough gloom in these songs. The short of it would be the first half is heavy on post-punk and its off-shoots; the second half is heavy on metal and punk off-shoots. It was a late night in the AE dungeon so I’ll leave you at this point. Thank you to all for your continued support.

As hinted at above, I’ll see you the first Wednesday of December. Keep the flame lit.

Episode 61

Greetings, with this episode Anxiety Eternal has been a festering sore on the face of society for five years. Much has changed in the world-at-large (and in your selector’s corner) in the past half decade and I appreciate all who have taken the ride. That being said, the music is the focus here, not reflection.

With Summer in full swing I felt the need to inject some speed into the mix which I feel has been lacking of late. Worry not, as the dirges and the misery also show themselves so as not to overwhelm the senses with pace for pace’s sake. There’s not much more to add other than thanks as always for any and all support. I will return the first Wednesday of September with the next installment. Anxiety Eternal is Eternal.

Episode 59

Greetings, thank you for returning with me this month. I’ve been feeling a bit sped up lately so you’re likely to notice that a number of the songs in this month’s iteration take their time to unfurl. That isn’t to say that there isn’t much pep, either. One pace is no pace to aspire to.

With that I’ll express my gratitude to any and all support this project has received as it nears the five-year mark. No plans to stop or slow down, either. Forever in/of/for the underground; or some other platitude. See you the first Wednesday of July.
