Episode 47

Another stroll down the calendar, another iteration of your least-favorite mixtape project. Does it date me that I insist on that “-tape” affix? Probably.

Lotsa punk and distortion this month. Little to be had, synth-wise; just how it goes sometimes. I found myself pleased that a number of artists I’ve long meant to include in an episode found themselves to be.

That’s all I have for this week. Thanks for the continued support and I’ll be back the first Wednesday of July.

Episode 42

This installment was a fucking pain in the ass to introduce to the ether, but here we are. Probably the most diverse, sonically-speaking, episode in some time, but I think you’ll enjoy its odd cohesion.

Episode 41

Here it is, the final episode of the year 2022. No best-of’s or end-of-the-year lists* and whatnot, just the standard weirdness and general discomfort listeners can expect from this project.

This month leans heavily into the blackened and the punk side of things; so hopefully to your liking. I’m also pretty sure this might be the first episode with two tracks featuring female performers, which is pretty embarrassing if I’m being honest. Here’s hoping for more diversity in personnel for the coming year.

See you the first Wednesday of next month.

*I always appreciate (assuming the person doesn’t have shit taste) reading a well-curated best-of list. Please do not hesitate to share yours.

Episode 36

This episode marks the end of the third “season” of this vanity project. I won’t pretend that anything I’ve undertook here has impacted anything of actual merit; but it’s been an interesting distraction at best, and a rote exercise that enables me to keep track of the date.

I figure now is as good a time as any other to speak the “mission statement (ugh)” of this very project into the ether. If for no other reason than my own hubris and current intoxication. The following points are only to be read by the biggest sickos as they are immaterial to your listening experience. I still feel the need to mention them.

-I do not repeat artists/groups (with exceptions for collaborations)

-I will always feature at least one (hopefully more) group or artist featuring a person of color. There’s a sea of white boys in all of the genres I highlight and they don’t need my shine. If this bothers you, then fuck off.

-I will always feature a group or artist from NYC. It was meant derisively, but “No one ‘loves’ New York like a transplant.”

All of that navel gazing aside, here is episode 36. See you the first Wednesday of next month for the start of Anxiety Eternal’s fourth year.

Episode 35

Four weeks have past and I’ve returned with a new collection of songs to sully your day (month?).

June’s chapter finds itself heavy on the slower scale of tempos as a general pace. A few sections reach rollicking heights, but this is largely a lurch. Hopefully this is to your liking. Coincidentally there’s a strong Canadian contingency this month, so cheers to my neighbors to the North.

So without further ado, I’ll bid you adieu. Thanks for the support and we’ll cross paths again the first Wednesday next month when the weather’s even worse.

We’re back. I am, like many humans, a self-centered person. And as such, I like to do karaoke on my birthday and artists covering other artists is effectively “professional karaoke”. Episode 24

Hello, and welcome to the newest episode of Anxiety Eternal. This episode also happens to mark the completion of my second year on this project. I’m somewhat surprised I’ve stuck it out this long; kudos to me.

This episode is heavy on the black metal and industrial (perhaps a ‘rebellion against this oppressive heat?) and I have to admit that some of these transitions/cuts aren’t my best. I was out of town and away from music for most of June, so forgive any awkward jumps in subject. Other than that, on with the show.

Episode 20.5

Well, I decided to drop another “surprise” episode to break up the monotony of my current day-to-day and hopefully yours. We’ve entered year two of Life in Quarantine if you hadn’t noticed and most social gatherings are still largely taboo. It being my birthday shortly I would normally be slamming beers and belting out DLR at some hellhole karaoke bar. Alas, it will wait another year.

In lieu of such debauchery, I offer you, imaginary reader/listener, an extra mix for the month of nothing but cover songs. I have sworn off including covers in Anxiety Eternal episodes since they’re pretty LCD; but fuck it, it’s time for dumb fun.

I’ll be back the first Wednesday next month as usual with a new, canonical episode.
