Episode 56.5: Anxious Karaoke IV

Back again with the newest installment of this series. I was finally able to “hit the stage” and belt out some idiotic and garbled versions of popular music (disco-era Kiss) at a wedding some months back. Perhaps that’s why this episode seems less…bleak, I guess, than most episodes. Oh well.

The weekend is here, let yourself be wild and free with these silly songs. See you in a few weeks with more of our regular fare. Thanks again for the support.

Episode 56

Welcome back. This month’s installment is heavy on guitars and snarls. I’m starting to think that I need to bring out the magnifying glass for more electronically-inclined sounds as they’ve been sorely lacking the last few months. This shouldn’t be misconstrued as an indictment of March’s contribution to the AE oeuvre; crunch and gristle are welcomed in these parts and hopefully you feel the same.

Do the colder months (this query only applies to us in the Northern Hemisphere, I guess) make you covet certain sounds? I find my listening trends follow the climate to a certain extent. But, contrarianism abounds.

Now that I’ve potentially dissuaded you from clicking play (truly, please listen) I’d like to remind you that only underground music is real. And that being said, thank you for your continued support. See you sooner than you think for the Anxious Karaoke SPECIAL EDITION episode in a matter of time.

Episode 55

Greetings! I’ve returned with more filth for the lot of you’s. This month is pretty orthodox in its “darkness” on side one with primarily black and death metal tracks. Side two is when things go a bit off the rails (hopefully in a good way). But that tends to be my “process” for better or worse.

As for my monthly weather report–we got snow and it’s been cold. I am in my element so maybe that means this episode also sounds more jubilant somehow (?).

Anyway, that’s all for now. See you the first Wednesday of March for the next installment. Thank you for any and all support.

Episode 54

A new year and another chapter in the book of Anxiety Eternal. If you’re interested in my opinions on the releases that were released (and actually heard by your selector) in 2023, feel free to mosey over to my Instagram (@Anxiety_Eternal) for such frivolity. If not, make no such detour.

This month brings more synth and electronic foul play than recent episodes while still retaining the expected viciousness and cold detachment I assume listeners expect of this project. Not much else to add, I’ll let you decide the merits of this installment.

Episode 53

Greetings. Welcome to the final episode of 2023. Hopefully this year has found you (who?) in good shape and good spirits. This month is heavy on guitars and light on electronics. I’ve found myself in a bit of a drought when it comes to new (or merely new-to-me) EBM, dark wave, synth, etc. acts so please feel free to shoot me suggestions.

But who says the “ole same ole” is inherently a bad thing. Lots of nasty death metal, driving post-punk, jolting punk, and immiserating black metal for your hungry ears.

Episode 52

I’ve returned after a short respite with new ugliness. No schticks or gimmicks this episode (no disrespect to the specials), just nasty black metal, depressing noise rock, upsetting experimental excursions, and punishing hardcore.

Episode 51

Welcome back. The leaves are falling and a return to seasonal normalcy approaches. This month’s episode is pretty guitar-centric, but it kicks off with two electronic oddities. Not much in the way of melody this month either, but I doubt the faithful few of you will find that objectionable either. Not much else to say other than thanks for the support.

Episode 50

Here comes the fiftieth episode of this vanity project. So much time spent on what I deem to be “reputable” sounds; hopefully you’ve found me agreeable.

This basement (Hi, Anthony) that I’ve spent much of this project’s undertaking has cooked my brain so I am curious if the progressions make sense outside of this place in the world.

Side one is largely straight-forward and blackened; side two is relatively quiet, lyrics-wise. I’ll see you soon for more nonsense. I’ll see you all the first Wednesday of October.

Episode 49

I’ve returned with a new collection of depraved songs to dazzle and disappoint. This month’s episode is pretty heavy on black metal and its offshoots. At least relative to my recent output. Perhaps it’s my subconscious straining and bucking from the heat.

I’ve now officially been making song selections for strangers (at least this cohort) for four years. Thank you to all who have listened over the years. Hopefully you continue to do so as I begin year five of this project.
